Sam Smith brings with her 26 years of experience working as an occupational therapist and an advanced clinical practitioner within various settings: acute, rehabilitation, and the community within both NHS and private sector. Recently, Sam’s experience has seen her specialising in spinal injuries where she has taught intermittent self-catheterisation, completed spinal cord injury bowel care, spinal handling and venepuncture. Throughout her career – using skills gained from Coventry University Fieldwork Educators Course and MSc Mentors Course – she has taken the role of mentor, teaching under- and postgraduate students and junior therapists, carers, and nurses. Outside her NHs career she has undertaken caseloads for adult and paediatric patients with neurological conditions, been a first responder for the West Midlands Ambulance Service and is currently the director and principal occupational therapist for Staffordshire Neurological OT Services.
