Nicola Wright (Specialist Nurse Practitioner in Occupational Health)

Biography

Nicola has a wide-ranging pool of nursing experience. Nicola is a registered general nurse (RGN) and a Senior Specialist Nurse Practitioner in Occupational Health with over 22 years’ experience. She is on part 1 and part 3 of the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council). Therefore, having the skill set and expertise in all general nursing aspects.

Nicola has experience at all levels of Occupational Health and has worked as a Manager and Clinical Lead. She has worked in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, private and public sectors, NHS, HMPPS, MOD, DWP, Royal Mail group, Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Nicola currently works for EDF energy as a locum practitioner.

Nicola’s roles as a Specialist Nurse Practitioner have included comprehensive clinical responsibilities, in the interpretation, formulation and review to service policies and procedures in light of relevant legislation and guidance. Advise service users regarding Occupational Health requirements, in relation to work environments and health care settings. Lead, managed and organise appointments and workload, including liaisons with all internal and external clients. Manage and supervise Occupational health advisors with relevant training, teaching, health education and induction programmes. Undertaking all duties of the Occupational Health remit including – complex case management referrals, sickness absence consultations, return to work interviews, drug and alcohol testing and fit for work medicals. The role also entails providing information, advice and educating clients on various aspects of health, safety and welfare, health surveillance, immunisation, and vaccination programs, monitoring to improve working lives and conditions, involving clients and managers. Research, formulate and review Patient Group Directions (PGD’s), also acting as a mentor and supervisor to support staff achieving and maintaining their competencies.
