Maureen Benbow (Tissue Viability Nurse)

Biography

I accept instructions to provide Liability and Causation reports for both claimants and defendants as well as preparing Condition and Prognosis reports, joint instructions, reporting on standards of nursing care, acceptable practice and risk management.

My clinical specialty is tissue viability across all care sectors and I have a professional background of clinical and managerial experience supporting a comprehensive understanding of nursing practice and hospital and community healthcare provision.  With over 40 years’ experience in the NHS my clinical experience spans emergency care, medicine, orthopaedics and nursing homes.

As a registered general nurse, I maintain my NMC registration. I have 14 years’ experience working at a senior trust nurse level responsible for implementing and evaluating high standards of tissue viability practice and research implementation. More recently, I was employed as a university senior lecturer/programme leader teaching all members of the multidisciplinary team.

I have prepared expert reports on behalf of Claimant and Defendant regarding adult Claimants with a range of injuries including complex orthopaedic, spinal, brain injury and amputees. I have attended Court and numerous legal case conferences. I have achieved accredited Expert Witness status through the Cardiff University/Bond Solon programme; training in the medico-legal process and understand my role and responsibilities as an expert witness under The Civil Procedure Rules. I maintain my clinical expertise by working as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission, my continuing professional development by providing education, publishing, reviewing for several tissue viability and general nursing journals, involvement with several tissue viability focused UK and international organisations and reviews of Trust tissue viability services.
